The Beach Is My Happy Place - Plank Board Sign with Starfish and Rhinestone Accents 12
Two of my favorite HGTV programs are Island Hunters and Beachfront Bargain Hunt. In these programs people either search for homes on the beach front or on their very own island, or they search for an island to rent for a wedding, honeymoon, or other special event.
I lovethe look of the beach and the sounds of the waves rolling in. I am blessed to live about 20 minutes from Pere Marquette Beach, located on beautiful Lake Michigan, which is one of the top 20 beaches in the United States. I don't utilize it or enjoy it as much as I should, though!
The beach is a tranquil place, even when it's full of people. Don't you find the water relaxing? I sure do! I often wonder if I would like living on the beach. I think I would, but I know there are some pitfalls to it, as well. It's typically windy by the water, and colder in the Winter (if you live in a colder climate like I do, you'll understand), plus you would get sand tracked in and blown in through open windows. But I think it might be worth it to be able to look out the windows and see the water and the sand, or to see boats sailing by. I wish I lived near an ocean, so I could enjoy dolphins, whales, seals, and other sea life, but for now I will enjoy seeing fish jump up out of the lakes that are ample nearby where I live. And I can always enjoy the ocean via videos and photos, right?

One of my sweet clients recently surprised me with a nautical gift that I had admired on Amazon. It's a shark candle holder, and it matches my newly decorated kitchen perfectly.
I love to have at least one nautical piece in each room of my home, because I enjoy the decor so much. Look at my beautiful shark candle below. What big teeth he has. I absolutely adore him!
I watched season 3, episode 1 or 2 of Brother vs. Brother on HGTV the other day, and one of the brothers created a beautiful living space that featured striped drapes in navy and white. The entire room was not a nautical, theme, but these curtains gave it just enough of a nautical look and feel to make it very appealing.
It doesn't necessarily take a lot to create a beautiful nautical atmosphere. Here are some drapes similar to those one of the brothers used...
Don't you love them?!
I thought I would share a few of my own nautical touches I have in my house. You don't have to have a lot in order to enjoy nautical design. I love nautical design, but I don't currently have a room with that theme as a whole. At one time I did have a bedroom with a nautical quilt, and nautical wall decor, and I also mixed it in with my adjoining bathroom, and I loved it! But I now live in a different home, and I never did the whole nautical them again, but it's not to say I won't someday soon!
A great way to add a nautical touch to any room is by incorporating seashells into your design. You can place them in a clear bowl and display them with nautical rope or sand, or buy larger shells and use them as figurines around other nautical items.
One cool way to add seashells to your design is a fillable lamp. These lamps come with a clear base that you can fill with small trinkets, such as seashells, buttons, colorful sand, and so on.
Seashells look lovely in a hurricane vase or any clear cylinder, too. You can place a few seashells in your bathroom, or any room in your home to give it a beachy nautical look and feel.
Incorporate some seashells into your home today! Whether it be a seashell shower curtain or toilet seat, some pretty wall decor or accent rugs. A seashell designed throw pillow, etc.

I love the way she transformed this tired porch into a nautical paradise. It didn't take much, either! You can give any area indoors or outdoors a nautical feel!
